The logistical concerns that you bring up are legitimate. I recently heard a woman condemn installing electric car chargers for a condo association. Her reasoning was, “We don’t all pay for the gas I put in my car, why should I pay for your electric charger?” Well, actually, we do all pay what amounts to billions of dollars a year directly for fossil fuel subsidies, not to mention the billions the military spends protecting oil and gas shipping and infrastructure. This is at a time when technologies such as hydrogen fuel, ground-source heat, DC power grids and smarter lean energy would solve the baseload problem in a hurry. One of my colleagues said, “All politicians care about is money and getting reelected.” I am beginning to think she is right.
