Thank you for your thoughtful response Denis. Your points are well-taken. The larger context for me, and not noted in this post, is that “both/and” solutions are better than “either/or” solutions. In this case, while the devil is always in the details, if we could get carbon polluters to pay for dumping carbon into the air, and if we could leverage other countries to follow suit, those would be huge gains in decarbonizing. That might be better than nothing. Perhaps there is room for compromise to reverse carbon rather than dismiss proposals outright.
