I didn’t say there is no progress in places. I happen to live in the greenest city in the greenest state overflowing with Blue Zone type legislation and initiatives. And I am proud of it. These changes you mention, while hopeful and even heroic, are only making a small impact on the global or US carbon footprint now and offer little hope of significant decarbonization by 2030. We are still subsidizing carbon, corporate welfare and cutting rainforests to satisfy a carnivorous world. Few of the NCA goals have been promised by any country, especially the US and China and given our polarization and greed, there is little hope of that looking forward in the executive, legislative or judicial branches at this critical time. Grassroots movements take time, if they can reach a critical mass; and we don’t have decades to allow fruition. I am glad you are idealistic and see the glass half full. If you read my writings, you will see I was once like you. Keep trying to convince voters we are not beyond the tipping point so they won’t give up on changing their lifestyles. Every little bit helps. But as you know, the destabilization and destruction is surpassing the best models. Scientists like Michael Mann admit this. Everyone can see this yet the vast majority of us, our corporations, and our elected officials are complacent in the name of (their) economic vitality and concepts such as freedom. It will take a true sea change to flip our political system to reach climate goals (pun intended). I apologize to my children and grandchildren that my generation willfully let this happen.
