Great ideas and writing, as always. But…

“A system in which your life comes last is a deluded and foolish one — because it will self-destruct. Precisely at moments of crisis, like now. Either quality of life comes first — far before share prices and profits — or the idea of “an economy” holds no real meaning, and it can literally mean anything from serfdom to slavery to servitude to self-destruction.”

Contrary to your thesis that the “Either/Or” paradigm is a foolish, dangerous myth (and I agree), you appear to violate your point by proposing your own “either/or” scenario. Your original thesis would prevail that yes, the quality of life AND economy are BOTH critical. It’s the extremes that seem to cause problems.
